Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Quick View

Barley, is a cereal plant belonging to the genus Hordeum of the grass family Poaceae (Gramineae). Barley has many uses including animal fodder and feed, as a base malt for beer and certain distilled beverages, and as a component of various health foods.

Two-row and six-row barley are traditionally used in the production of beers because of their lower protein content which results in greater fermentable sugar content. High protein barley is best suited for animal feed. Protein content of barley used for feed ranges from 10-15 percent.
