PNW

After inspecting a number of different locations throughout the Columbia Basin, quality seems to be comparable or even slightly better than second cutting. The weather cooperated giving growers faster drying times, resulting in product coming off sooner than usual.
Ellensburg, Washington
Third cutting is underway for some here in the Kittitas Valley. With the warm temperatures that are forecasted for this week, and with lighter tonnage that usually comes with second cutting, growers should be able to get product up in a timely fashion.

PNW
Columbia Basin, Washington
Scheduling is everything for growers. With the unusual weather that was received for most of the PNW during first cutting timothy this year, it set back some growers with the hopes of doing second cutting timothy. Some producers kept their product in for a second crop, but it will be later than usual and tonnage may be lower than what we have seen in previous years.

Second cutting in the Kittitas Valley should begin for some within the next week or two. Growers in the valley have benefited from having higher temps for the last couple of months, which has allowed for fast growth within the product.

PNW
Ellensburg, Washington
Sudan harvest is underway for some in the Kittitas Valley. Quality seems to be fair, for the amount of 3-tie material we have received into our facility. Maturity is a key component when harvesting Sudan, letting the product stand for too long will result in a thicker stem and tougher product overall, growers have been trying to time harvest to maximize product quality.
